We came to Costa Rica in the early 90's and immediately knew we wanted property. . . this was a time before bridges and paved roads in our area. We literally got stuck on the other side of the Rio Uvita and had to wait until the river went down. We looked at a lot of land. . . land we loved and couldn't afford and land we could afford that just “didn't speak to us”! It seemed we spent more time with the realtor than with each other. So, finally we decided to purchase a piece and while it was not our dream, it was a start. But, sometimes fate steps in and on the way down the hill, we stopped to meet our new neighbor. He welcomed us as neighbors, but of course as with most folks in Costa Rica , he too had land for sale. Long story, short. . .we saw, we loved, we bought! We now have 16 acres and this incredible house with a 180 view of the Pacific. Sometimes we truly sit in awe.

Craig, an avid birdwatcher, amateur herpetologist, fisherman and all-around nature lover, often starts the day walking our trail system, looking for the monkeys and birds. However, many mornings find us in rocking chairs on the porch with the first cup of the day. We highly recommend “porch watching” for some of the best viewing, as anteaters, agoutis, pacas, skunks, kinkajous and over 90 species of birds have all been seen from there. Craig is actively involved in all the gardening and reforestation of Finca Moonvine, focusing on native plants and trees.

As restaurant owners from Nashville , we both enjoy the fresh produce, herbs, and fish. On occasion, we have been known to roast a young pig over the coals. Craig is the true chef, but in Costa Rica , I cook! Costa Rica may not be known for its cuisine, but it certainly should be celebrated for many of its individual items . . . pungent blue cheese from Monteverde, rich aromatic coffee from our mountainsides, chorizo sausage from Palmer Norte, smoked mackerel from Playa Pinuela, French bread and camembert from Ojochal, ceviche from Uvita, starfruit pepper jelly from Noah down the road and incredible tortillas from Dona Elena. I love sharing these culinary discoveries with others, as I have a passion for entertaining. Casa Moonvine is the perfect home to indulge a passion.

While we are not full-time in Costa Rica . . . yet. . . Craig and I do get to spend enough time to feel we are quite blessed. We look forward to the day when we can spend more time with our Costa Rican friends. In the meantime, we invite you to visit.
